Hope Giselle-Godsey

In 2023, Hope became the first openly trans woman to speak at a March on Washington commemoration. 

She helped to found and govern the first LGBTQ+ organzxaiton at Alabama State University. She was also the first openly trans woman to earn a ceachlors and master’s degree in fine arts from the university. 

Hope currently serves as the Monica Roberts Senior Scholor at NBJC (you have probably seen her work for us on this page). 

The National Black Justice Coalition (NBJC) is a civil rights organization dedicated to the empowerment of Black lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and same gender loving (LGBTQ/SGL) people, including people living with HIV/AIDS.
