James Baldwin Legacy Awards

On Saturday, August 21, 2021, at 12pm EDT, The National Black Justice Coalition (NBJC) and AARP will host the virtual James Baldwin Legacy Awards Honoring Distinguished Black Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Same Gender Loving (GBT+/SGL) Luminaries in honor of National Senior Citizens Day. Guests can register to join us for the James Baldwin Legacy Awards here. The event will be emceed by Dr. Nii-Quartelai Quarety.    

The event will celebrate the accomplishments, achievements, experiences and wisdom of Black GBT+/SGL elders who have fought for the liberation of our community. It will also create an intergenerational space that acknowledges their contributions as we advance policy that will protect Black LGBTQ+/SGL seniors and their dignity as they age in families, elder care facilities, senior living communities and more and work to decriminalize and remove the stigma associated with being Black, LGBTQ+ and an older adult. The National Black Justice Coalition (NBJC) is a civil rights organization dedicated to the empowerment of Black lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and same gender loving (LGBTQ/SGL) people, including people living with HIV/AIDS.
